Melissa and Bryan held their destination wedding at the Majestic Elegance Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. As you can imagine I was overjoyed to be asked to come along and document their nuptials! Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I really do have the best job in the world! I also love it when a wedding is a legacy wedding, meaning a wedding from another wedding. I met Melissa and Bryan several years ago at the wedding of their best friends, Courtney and Abdul. Melissa was in the wedding party. So you can guess how excited I was to hear from them when they got engaged!
And then it was time for their wedding. I along with 25 of the couple’s closest friends and family flew down to the Dominican Republic for Thanksgiving weekend to celebrate their marriage. I loved everything about the resort. It was clean, Caribbean, beachy. All the things you hope for as a photographer at a destination wedding. There were even gentlemen climbing trees and carving out coconuts for refreshment along the beach. It was even amazing to realize that the property next door was vacant, meaning it was a whole forest of palm trees!
Melissa and Bryan arrived early in the week to prepare last minute details, create welcome bags for all their guests, and enjoy the time of anticipation for their wedding with the friends and family. It really was a week long celebration! Then then wedding day arrived. After both the bride and groom got ready with the guys and girls, everyone met in the grand lobby of the resort to start the ceremony. Held in this great Dome on the property, Melissa stuck to the classic white decor for the ceremony, which I thought was a perfect choice. Sometimes any color is too much and it would have overwhelmed the inherent destination vibe. Bryan’s vows were so sweet and the groom even shed a few tears during the exchange.
After the I Do’s the couple and guests celebrated with a champagne toast by the father of the bride before the couple and I headed to the beach for some photos. It was an overcast day, but that actually turned out to be awesome because it meant being able to point to couple in any direction for photos as well as great colors from the trees and ocean. And thankfully the rain held off until just after we arrived back to our hotel rooms. Then there was downpour! After taking photos on the beach and a short break during the afternoon, everyone gathered for their reception at the venue overlooking the ocean. The staff even brought out balloons for a really fun dance part to close out the night.
Mel and Bry, I really cannot thank you enough for trusting me with such an important week. I will truly be eternally grateful for tagging along to your international destination wedding! You guys fit so perfectly together. It really is a joy to witness two best friends marrying each other. From your sense of humor and taste in movies, to the activities you enjoy together, you two are made for each other. I’m so glad you two found love in one another! And it really shows in your photos! Love them! Enjoy!
