Catherine and Paul are some of the nicest, most helpful, welcoming, good natured people. It takes a lot to hire someone from across the world to come and photograph your wedding without meeting them! And they did! I cannot thank them enough for trusting me, hiring me, helping me with my bags, giving me kiwi advice, and having great conversations with me all along the way. They are seriously the best!
Their wedding day was also the best! Set on St. Patrick’s day, the couple got married in one of, if not the oldest church in Auckland. I loved the individual pews, the way the guests faced each other down the long isle, and their priest’s jovial officiating. It was a gorgeous church and a perfect introduction to my second wedding in New Zealand. After their ceremony, I loved how the couple allowed the time to just mingle with guests outside, greeting them all as they came out to congratulate the couple.
Then it was off to the Auckland Zoo for a mini safari with their wedding party to feel monkeys and even the giraffe! I really love the idea of providing your wedding party and yourselves with something fun to do. It creates a wonderful environment for me to take more photojournalistic photos, instead of an hour of posing everyone. Even just throwing in a trolley to take your wedding party around to two locations before heading to the next part of your day allows for movement and energy to fill your photos. People are much quicker to ignore (or even forget about) me if they have something else to do besides wait for instructions from me. Needless to say, it was a really enjoyable time and we got some great photography! I dare say I will most likely never have the opportunity to get into a monkey exhibit again!
We finished up the day at the Old Elephant House at the Zoo, where Catherine and Paul hosted their guests at a vintage safari themed reception. Their details were perfect, not too over the top, but little touches were everywhere. From the bride’s leopard print shoes to the zebra print wedding cake, Catherine and Paul thought of a lot of details to tie into the zoo. I had blogged earlier about how Catherine shared her ideas about her theme with me and we together created a board on Pinterest to easily stay in touch about ideas along the way. I would love it if every bride did this!
Catherine and Paul! You two are the best. You were so welcoming and hosted me so wonderfully the whole week I was there. I cannot thank you enough for such a great opportnity! I love your photos and am so excited to share them with you now. Here’s to 12+ years of marriage, 11 more trips abroad, 10 year high school reunion, 9 months of newlywed bliss, 8 grandchildren, 7 days a week of love from each other, 6 honeymoon memories, 5 great in-laws, 4 kids, 3 new pets, 2 rings of eternity, and a great memory of your Auckland Zoo wedding! Enjoy!
