Sarah and Bevan had a truly destination wedding. THe couple live in London and planned the wedding for back in their home country of New Zealand. Their guests came from more than 10 different countries, all sitting at the table of their origin. The bride’s parents are from Ireland and New Zealand, and the groom’s are from the States. That’s not all that makes this couple internationally unique. After quitting their jobs and going to Bolivia for a few months to volunteer, the couple started an organization there called A Little Charitable Trust to help poverty stricken families and children.
Sarah and Bevan wed in the New Zealand bush, at the cabin of Bevan’s uncle. The couple decorated with a combination of the understated burlap sacks and bird feed as favors with the pops of color in the bride’s maids dresses, bangles, and Sarah’s sister’s attire. Sarah and Bevan are the kindest, most adventurous, loving couple. And their friends are hilarious, jovial, and up for anything as well. After Sarah and Bevan’s ceremony, we ventured out into the bush for some photos. The couple was willing to treck down to a waterfall, travel to the local beach, and trample through the bush to get some great photography. And what’s great about New Zealand is that there are no dangerous bugs or animals to get in our way.
During the reception, Sarah and Bevan’s friends and family gave toast after taost about how special this couple is. They are people who genuinely love each other and love others dearly. They go above and beyond for their loved ones and it was so moving to hear about.
I loved the causal nature of their destination wedding: in the back yard of a cabin. Dogs were wandering during speeches. Guests were mingling in the afternoon shade. The couple’s mothers planted a tree during their ceremony. The bride’s father and sister played typical Irish music at different points during the day. They chilled their wine in an old fashioned tub out back. And the couple served their guests Hokey Pokey ice cream for dessert. I told you they went above and beyond for others! And the best part was. They truly need each other. They are better because of each other. And it was a joy to photograph that love. Sarah and Bevan, thank you so much for letting me be there for the beginning of your marriage. It was an honor! Enjoy!
